Street Fighter: Everything You Need to Know — Including How to Watch in Spanish

The words haven't changed.

Round One.

Fight.

Almost 40 years after Capcom introduced Street Fighter to arcades—and more than three decades after Street Fighter II turned the series into a global phenomenon—the World Warriors are back on the big screen.

Street Fighter opened in U.S. theaters on October 16, 2026, with Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. The enormous ensemble also includes Jason Momoa as Blanka, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, 50 Cent as Balrog and Orville Peck as Vega.

And unlike some previous attempts to turn Street Fighter into a movie, this version does not appear embarrassed by the fact that it is based on a video game.

There are Hadoukens.

There are outrageous costumes.

There is a World Warrior Tournament.

There are fighters from around the world.

There is M. Bison.

There is Blanka.

And the entire movie is set in 1993, placing it directly inside the era when Street Fighter II was dominating arcades and becoming one of the defining fighting games of all time.

For Spanish-speaking audiences, there is even better news.

Street Fighter is officially available Doblada en Español in U.S. theaters.

Cinemark has a dedicated [En Español] Street Fighter listing.

Harkins is even more explicit, advertising screenings as:

Street Fighter [doblado en Español].

And TheaterEars' public release calendar lists Street Fighter with an availability date of October 16, 2026.

Here is everything you need to know.

When Did Street Fighter Come Out?

Street Fighter opened widely in the United States on:

October 16, 2026.

Paramount Pictures confirms the October 16 release and currently lists the movie as playing in theaters.

The film is produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

It is also significant from a Hollywood business perspective because Street Fighter became the first movie released under Legendary's new multi-year distribution relationship with Paramount.

What Is Street Fighter About?

The movie takes place in 1993.

Ryu and Ken Masters were once close friends and fellow fighters.

Now they have grown apart.

Then Chun-Li appears.

She recruits them to participate in the upcoming World Warrior Tournament, where fighters from around the world will compete against one another.

But the tournament isn't simply a sporting competition.

Something much larger is happening behind it.

Paramount's official synopsis describes a deadly conspiracy that eventually forces Ryu and Ken to confront both one another and unresolved parts of their past.

The film therefore uses the tournament as the mechanism for bringing together the enormous roster of characters fans know from the games.

And it gives the filmmakers a perfectly logical reason to have people from completely different parts of the world repeatedly punch and kick each other.

Which is exactly what a Street Fighter movie should probably do.

Why Is Street Fighter Set in 1993?

This may be one of the smartest creative choices in the movie.

Street Fighter began as an arcade game in 1987.

But the franchise exploded after the release of Street Fighter II in 1991.

By 1993, Street Fighter II and its various updated editions had become a defining part of arcade culture.

The new movie doesn't move those characters into contemporary 2026.

Instead, it places them inside the period when the franchise itself became a phenomenon.

That allows the film to embrace:

arcades,

1990s fashion,

music,

technology,

and the exaggerated visual identity associated with the classic games.

The movie even begins with material set in 1987 before jumping six years forward to the main 1993 story.

Is the New Street Fighter Based on Street Fighter II?

The movie isn't a scene-for-scene adaptation of one particular game.

But the influence of Street Fighter II is enormous.

The World Warrior Tournament.

Ryu.

Ken.

Chun-Li.

Guile.

Blanka.

Dhalsim.

E. Honda.

Zangief.

Vega.

Balrog.

M. Bison.

Those characters form the core of the era most people associate with classic Street Fighter.

The film also introduces characters from beyond the original Street Fighter II lineup, including Akuma, Dan Hibiki and Juli.

So the best description is:

a movie heavily inspired by the Street Fighter II era rather than a literal adaptation of Street Fighter II's plot.

Who Plays Ryu?

Andrew Koji plays Ryu.

Koji is a particularly logical choice because he already has extensive action and martial-arts experience.

He is best known to many viewers for Warrior and has also appeared in action projects including Bullet Train.

In Street Fighter, Ryu provides much of the movie's more serious emotional grounding.

The Hollywood Reporter noted that Koji plays Ryu as a troubled character who remains an exceptionally capable fighter even while struggling personally.

That also fits Ryu's traditional role in the games.

He isn't normally the loudest character.

He isn't the funniest.

He is the fighter constantly trying to become better.

Who Plays Ken Masters?

Noah Centineo plays Ken Masters.

And the movie appears to lean heavily into the contrast between Ken and Ryu.

Ryu is controlled and serious.

Ken is more flamboyant and unpredictable.

At the beginning of the movie, both men are struggling after the death of their mentor, Gouken.

The film shows Ken in particularly rough shape before Chun-Li brings the two fighters back together.

Centineo's performance has actually emerged as one of the elements some critics enjoyed most, particularly when the movie allows Ken to become deliberately ridiculous. Rotten Tomatoes currently highlights critical praise for the movie's willingness to let Centineo embrace the comedy.

Who Plays Chun-Li?

Callina Liang plays Chun-Li.

She is much more than simply another competitor.

Chun-Li is the person responsible for bringing Ryu and Ken into the World Warrior Tournament.

But she has her own agenda.

The movie connects her to Interpol, continuing one of the most important elements of Chun-Li's history from the games.

Her real objective involves stopping M. Bison, whose actions have affected her personally.

That gives Chun-Li an important position in the story.

She isn't just participating in the tournament.

She is investigating what is happening behind it.

Who Plays M. Bison?

David Dastmalchian plays M. Bison.

That is one of the more interesting casting choices.

Dastmalchian has appeared in films including The Suicide Squad, Dune and Oppenheimer, and has built a career around characters who can be simultaneously strange, unsettling and charismatic.

M. Bison requires all three.

The character was famously played by Raul Julia in the 1994 Street Fighter movie.

Trying to imitate Julia would probably be impossible.

Instead, Dastmalchian reportedly takes Bison in a more disturbing direction rather than simply reproducing the theatrical villainy of the earlier movie.

Jason Momoa Is Blanka

Yes.

Jason Momoa plays Blanka.

And he also serves as one of the movie's producers.

For people who know the games, that casting probably requires no further explanation.

Blanka is one of the strangest and most instantly recognizable characters in fighting-game history.

Green skin.

Orange hair.

Enormous physical strength.

Electricity.

And an unusual fighting style.

The new film embraces characters like Blanka instead of trying to redesign the franchise into something more realistic.

That decision tells you a great deal about the movie's overall approach.

Roman Reigns Plays Akuma

WWE star Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa'i plays Akuma.

Akuma is one of the franchise's most formidable fighters and a character closely connected to the darker side of the martial-arts mythology surrounding Ryu.

He was not part of the original roster when Street Fighter II first launched but became one of the series' most iconic characters through later versions and sequels.

Including him gives the movie access to a larger mythology than the basic tournament story.

And casting Roman Reigns gives Akuma the kind of physical presence audiences expect.

Cody Rhodes Plays Guile

Another major wrestling star enters the World Warrior Tournament.

Cody Rhodes plays Guile.

Guile is one of Street Fighter's most recognizable American fighters.

Military background.

Flat-top haircut.

Sonic Boom.

Flash Kick.

The character was played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 1994 movie, where Guile essentially became the central protagonist.

The new film returns the focus primarily to Ryu and Ken rather than building the entire story around Guile.

50 Cent Plays Balrog

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson plays Balrog.

Balrog is the franchise's powerful boxer and one of the characters traditionally associated with M. Bison's organization.

The casting is another example of the movie mixing traditional actors with performers from completely different worlds.

The cast includes:

movie stars,

professional wrestlers,

musicians,

martial artists,

and professional fighters.

That almost feels appropriate for a franchise whose central premise is bringing wildly different fighters from around the world into the same tournament.

Who Plays Vega?

Country musician Orville Peck plays Vega.

Vega is the masked Spanish fighter known for:

his claw,

extraordinary speed,

acrobatic movements,

and obsession with beauty.

Again, it's unusual casting.

But unusual casting appears to be part of this movie's identity.

Who Plays Zangief?

Olivier Richters plays Zangief.

Richters is known for his extraordinary size and has appeared in films including Black Widow and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Zangief is the enormous wrestling specialist associated with Russia in the games.

The physical match between actor and character is fairly obvious.

Who Plays E. Honda?

Professional wrestler Hirooki Goto plays E. Honda.

Honda is the sumo wrestler who has been part of the franchise since Street Fighter II.

His inclusion is another sign that the filmmakers wanted a recognizable classic roster rather than limiting the movie to three or four central characters.

Who Plays Dhalsim?

Indian action star and martial artist Vidyut Jammwal plays Dhalsim.

Dhalsim is one of the most distinctive characters in the games, known for his unusual fighting abilities and extraordinary reach.

He's another character who becomes very difficult to adapt if the filmmakers insist on making everything realistic.

This movie clearly doesn't.

Who Plays Cammy?

Melanie Jarnson plays Cammy.

Cammy became one of the franchise's most famous characters after being introduced in Super Street Fighter II.

Her presence expands the movie beyond the earliest Street Fighter II roster and gives the filmmakers another major character to use if the franchise continues.

Who Is Dan Hibiki?

Andrew Schulz plays Dan Hibiki.

Dan was originally created as a deliberately comedic character.

He's arrogant.

He's dramatic.

And he's nowhere near as impressive as he believes himself to be.

Casting a comedian like Schulz suggests the movie understands exactly why the character exists.

Who Is in the Full Street Fighter Cast?

The enormous principal roster includes:

  • Andrew Koji — Ryu

  • Noah Centineo — Ken Masters

  • Callina Liang — Chun-Li

  • David Dastmalchian — M. Bison

  • Jason Momoa — Blanka

  • Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa'i — Akuma

  • Cody Rhodes — Guile

  • Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson — Balrog

  • Vidyut Jammwal — Dhalsim

  • Orville Peck — Vega

  • Olivier Richters — Zangief

  • Hirooki Goto — E. Honda

  • Andrew Schulz — Dan Hibiki

  • Melanie Jarnson — Cammy

  • Rayna Vallandingham — Juli

  • Alexander Volkanovski — Joe

  • Eric André — Don Sauvage

  • Kyle Mooney — Marvin

Paramount and Rotten Tomatoes confirm the unusually large ensemble.

Who Directed Street Fighter?

Street Fighter is directed by Kitao Sakurai.

Sakurai is known for projects including Bad Trip and The Eric Andre Show.

That background helps explain something important about this movie.

This isn't being approached as a completely serious martial-arts drama.

The film contains:

action,

martial arts,

nostalgia,

absurdity,

and comedy.

Harkins actually categorizes the movie as:

Martial Arts, Action, Comedy.

Sakurai also co-wrote the screenplay with T.J. Fixman.

Is Capcom Involved in the Movie?

Yes.

This isn't merely a Hollywood studio licensing the Street Fighter name and doing whatever it wants with it.

Capcom is directly involved.

The movie is a Legendary Pictures production in association with Capcom, and Paramount's official credits include Capcom executives Kenzo Tsujimoto and Haruhiro Tsujimoto among the executive producers.

Takayuki Nakayama, director of Street Fighter 6, is also listed among the movie's producers.

That level of involvement helps explain why so much of the character imagery stays recognizable.

Is Street Fighter a Remake of the 1994 Movie?

No.

This is a completely new adaptation of Capcom's video games.

It is not a remake of the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme movie.

It does, however, inevitably invite comparisons.

The 1994 Street Fighter featured:

Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile,

Raul Julia as M. Bison,

Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li,

and Kylie Minogue as Cammy.

The franchise returned to live action with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li in 2009.

Neither film received strong critical reviews. Variety noted that both previous theatrical adaptations were critical and commercial disappointments.

The 2026 movie effectively gives Hollywood another chance.

Do You Need to Play the Street Fighter Games Before Seeing the Movie?

No.

The basic plot is straightforward enough to understand without knowing the games.

Ryu and Ken are fighters.

Chun-Li recruits them.

There is a tournament.

M. Bison is dangerous.

Something bigger is happening.

You can follow that.

But people who know the games will recognize far more.

Character costumes.

Special moves.

Relationships.

Locations.

References.

Fighting styles.

And likely numerous visual Easter eggs.

In fact, some critics argue that the movie contains so many references that newcomers may occasionally struggle to keep up.

So prior knowledge isn't required.

But it definitely changes the experience.

Are Hadoukens in the Movie?

Yes.

Paramount is not hiding them.

The studio's own official description specifically promises:

Hadoukens

and

roundhouse kicks.

That may sound like a small detail, but it's actually important.

One of the problems that plagued older video game adaptations was a tendency to remove exactly the elements that made the games distinctive.

This Street Fighter wants to look like Street Fighter.

How Long Is Street Fighter?

Street Fighter runs:

1 hour and 59 minutes.

That's the runtime listed by Paramount's theater partners, Cinemark, Harkins and Rotten Tomatoes.

In practical terms, plan on around two hours plus trailers.

What Is Street Fighter Rated?

The movie is rated:

PG-13.

The MPA reasons listed by Rotten Tomatoes include:

  • Violence/action

  • Bloody images

  • Strong language

  • Sexual references

  • Partial nudity

  • Brief smoking

That makes it considerably more accessible than an R-rated fighting movie like Mortal Kombat II, but parents should not assume that means it is intended for very young children.

Is Street Fighter Appropriate for Kids?

For older children and teenagers who already play Street Fighter, probably—depending on the family.

The movie is rated PG-13 rather than R.

But it still contains:

martial-arts violence,

some bloody imagery,

strong language,

sexual references,

and other mature material.

Parents with younger children should therefore treat the rating seriously even though the movie's colorful characters may make it look like a family-oriented superhero adventure.

Is Street Fighter in IMAX?

Yes.

The film was filmed for IMAX, and IMAX presentations are currently playing at participating theaters.

For a movie built around large-scale tournament fights and colorful characters, the premium format is a logical fit.

Whether you need IMAX depends on how much you value the larger presentation.

The story itself doesn't change.

What Are the Reviews for Street Fighter?

Critics and audiences are having noticeably different reactions.

As of October 18, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes has Street Fighter at:

45% from critics

and

84% from verified audiences.

That is a significant gap.

Many critics agree on the basic strengths and weaknesses.

The movie is energetic.

It is colorful.

It knows the games.

It isn't ashamed of the source material.

But it also has a huge cast and a complicated plot.

The Associated Press called it a chaotic nostalgia-driven movie and criticized the story for becoming too convoluted.

The Hollywood Reporter similarly argued that the movie sometimes becomes overwhelmed by how many characters and references it tries to include.

Audiences appear substantially more forgiving.

And for a movie built so aggressively around fan recognition, that difference isn't particularly surprising.

How Is Street Fighter Doing at the Box Office?

The movie immediately reached number one at the domestic box office.

On Friday, October 16, Box Office Mojo reported approximately $13 million for Street Fighter, comfortably making it the day's top movie.

Current industry estimates put the full domestic opening weekend at approximately $31 million, although final weekend actuals had not yet been reported when this guide was updated on the morning of October 18.

The movie is playing in approximately 3,575 U.S. theaters.

Because the weekend is still being finalized, these numbers should be treated as early estimates rather than the movie's final opening result.

How to Watch Street Fighter in Spanish

This is one area where the answer is extremely clear.

Street Fighter is available Doblada en Español in U.S. theaters.

We have direct confirmation from multiple theater chains.

Cinemark Has [En Español] Street Fighter

Cinemark has an official separate page for:

[En Español] Street Fighter.

The page confirms:

October 16, 2026 release

PG-13 rating

1 hour 59 minute runtime

and current Spanish-version showtimes searchable by ZIP code.

That means anyone searching for:

Street Fighter in Spanish

Street Fighter Spanish Dubbed

Street Fighter Dubbed in Spanish

Street Fighter En Español

or

Street Fighter Doblada en Español

already has a confirmed theatrical option.

Harkins Explicitly Says Doblado en Español

Harkins provides even stronger wording.

Its official movie page is titled:

Street Fighter [doblado en Español].

And these aren't hypothetical future screenings.

Harkins currently lists Spanish-dubbed showtimes in markets including:

Arizona,

California,

Colorado,

and Oklahoma.

The availability will vary by theater and date, but the existence of the U.S. Spanish dub is definitive.

Is Street Fighter Spanish Dubbed or Just Subtitled?

There is a full Spanish dub.

Harkins uses the exact phrase:

doblado en Español.

That means audiences attending those presentations hear the dialogue in Spanish.

This is different from:

Spanish Subtitles

where Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo and the rest of the cast remain audible in English while translated text appears on screen.

If your goal is spoken Spanish, look for:

Can You Watch Street Fighter in Spanish with TheaterEars?

TheaterEars' public release page currently lists:

Street Fighter — Available 10/16/26.

Its Spanish-language cartelera page also lists Street Fighter with the same October 16 availability date.

That is strong public evidence that Street Fighter has been scheduled for TheaterEars availability.

Because the website still places the title under a “Coming Soon” heading even though October 16 has already passed, users should confirm the live track inside the TheaterEars app before relying on it for a specific showtime.

For a supported TheaterEars presentation, the advantage is different from a dedicated Spanish screening.

Instead of the entire theater hearing Spanish:

you hear the Spanish audio privately through your own headphones while the rest of the auditorium hears the normal soundtrack.

That can be especially useful for bilingual families.

Dedicated Spanish Showing vs. TheaterEars: Which Should You Choose?

Both options can be useful.

Choose a Dedicated Spanish-Dubbed Screening If:

Everyone in your group wants Spanish.

You want the Spanish dub through the theater's main sound system.

There is a convenient [En Español] or Doblado en Español showtime near you.

You don't want to wear headphones.

Choose TheaterEars If:

Some people in your group want English and others want Spanish.

You want more flexibility in choosing a theater or showtime.

You want to sit with English-speaking friends or family while hearing Spanish privately.

The specific Street Fighter track is available in your TheaterEars app.

That distinction can make a big difference for bilingual families.

Can My Family Watch Street Fighter Together in English and Spanish?

With a supported TheaterEars track, yes.

Imagine four people attending the movie.

Two want the original English presentation.

One prefers Spanish.

Another understands English but enjoys action movies more in Spanish.

Everyone can sit together.

The auditorium continues playing its standard soundtrack.

The TheaterEars users listen through their own headphones.

For a movie like Street Fighter, which may appeal to multiple generations of players, that flexibility can be particularly valuable.

Does Street Fighter Have a Spanish Title?

In U.S. theaters, the movie generally keeps the title:

Street Fighter.

Cinemark simply identifies the dubbed version as:

[En Español] Street Fighter.

Harkins uses:

Street Fighter [doblado en Español].

So if you're searching for tickets, you probably don't need a translated movie title.

Search:

Street Fighter En Español

or

Street Fighter Doblado en Español.

Was There a Spanish-Language Fan Event?

Yes.

Harkins also scheduled a special:

Street Fighter: Bonus Round Fan Event [Español]

beginning October 15.

The fan-event version had a listed runtime of 2 hours and 6 minutes, compared with the standard movie's 1 hour and 59 minutes.

That confirms the studio and exhibitors were thinking about Spanish-speaking audiences even before the normal theatrical opening.

Is Street Fighter Streaming Yet?

No.

Its current release is theatrical.

The film only opened on October 16, and Paramount is currently promoting it as an in-theaters release.

No streaming date should be treated as confirmed until Paramount officially announces one.

If you want to see it now, the movie theater is the confirmed option.

Is There a Street Fighter Post-Credits Scene?

The movie clearly wants to leave room for the franchise to continue.

Without spoiling specific story details, critics have noted that the ending sets up the possibility of another film.

For a franchise with dozens of characters who haven't yet appeared, that isn't surprising.

If you're a longtime Street Fighter player, staying through the credits is the safest option if you don't want to miss any franchise setup.

Will There Be a Street Fighter 2 Movie?

Paramount and Legendary have not yet announced a theatrical sequel that should be treated as officially confirmed.

But the movie clearly leaves possibilities open.

The game franchise has an enormous roster of characters.

Several major fighters still haven't been fully explored.

And the World Warrior concept gives filmmakers an easy framework for expanding the story.

Whether a sequel actually happens will probably depend heavily on the movie's worldwide box-office performance.

For now:

possible, but not officially confirmed.

Why Street Fighter Has Been So Difficult to Turn Into a Movie

The problem is surprisingly simple.

Street Fighter has fantastic characters.

But it doesn't necessarily have one obvious movie story.

The games are built around:

choosing a fighter,

traveling around the world,

fighting other characters,

and eventually facing a boss.

That works perfectly as a game.

A movie needs:

motivation,

relationships,

character arcs,

conflict,

and a reason all these wildly different people happen to be standing in the same place.

The 2026 movie solves that by making the World Warrior Tournament the central mechanism.

Chun-Li has a reason to recruit Ryu and Ken.

M. Bison has his own agenda.

The fighters have personal motivations.

And the tournament gives everyone else a reason to show up.

Whether the resulting plot becomes too complicated is exactly where critics are divided.

Why the 2026 Street Fighter Movie Matters

Video game adaptations have changed dramatically.

For decades, Street Fighter itself was one of the examples people used when arguing that video games simply didn't translate to movies.

Now we live in a world where:

The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a billion-dollar blockbuster.

Sonic the Hedgehog became a successful film franchise.

A Minecraft Movie approached $1 billion worldwide.

And video-game adaptations have stopped trying to hide what makes the games distinctive.

The new Street Fighter belongs to that era.

Jason Momoa can actually be Blanka.

Ryu can throw a Hadouken.

Guile can look like Guile.

A World Warrior Tournament doesn't need to be translated into something more “realistic.”

The movie can simply say:

Fight.

Street Fighter Finally Understands That Street Fighter Is Supposed to Be Ridiculous

A green electric man from Brazil.

A sumo wrestler.

A yoga master whose arms stretch impossibly far.

A Spanish narcissist fighting with a claw.

A U.S. military officer with hair that seems physically incapable of moving.

A boxer.

A Russian wrestler.

A mysterious martial artist throwing energy from his hands.

And somehow they all meet in a tournament.

Try making that realistic and you probably destroy the thing people liked in the first place.

That was the trap video game movies spent decades falling into.

Hollywood repeatedly bought games because audiences loved them—

and then removed the things audiences loved because filmmakers worried they would look silly in a movie.

The new Street Fighter goes in the opposite direction.

Jason Momoa is Blanka.

Roman Reigns is Akuma.

50 Cent is Balrog.

Cody Rhodes is Guile.

David Dastmalchian is M. Bison.

Ryu throws Hadoukens.

And everyone apparently agreed that the correct solution was not to make Street Fighter less ridiculous.

It was to commit harder.

Critics are divided over whether the enormous cast and complicated story actually work.

Audiences are responding much more positively.

And the movie has already opened at number one in North America.

For Spanish-speaking audiences, the options are also unusually good.

So whether you grew up feeding quarters into an arcade cabinet or have never thrown a Hadouken in your life, the World Warrior Tournament is finally back on the big screen.

And this time, Hollywood appears to understand the most important rule of Street Fighter:

When the announcer says “Fight,” you fight.
